Building Carbon Capacity in the Limestone Coast

The Building Carbon Capacity project was designed to increase farmers' ability to store carbon across the Limestone Coast by improving their awareness of farm management practices that enhance the cycling of carbon in plants and soils. The project assessed the health and function of different agricultural soils comparing their condition where possible against those found in remnant native vegetation. Five paired locations were selected across the Limestone Coast to provide a range of production systems, soil types and rainfall gradients across the region.

Limestone Coast branch 2021 AGM

Although there were several apologies due to heavy rain forecast the following day, the AGM went ahead as scheduled on October 27, 2021.

Two committee members, Emilie Gilbertson and Claire Dennerley, retired and were replaced by new farmer members Dean Eastwood and Scott Harlock.  Emilie had given four years to the committee while Claire had served for 12 months.

Dylan Brodie was re-elected president.  Adam Hancock is the new vice-president and Mike Walker returned as secretary and Sam Bell as treasurer.

At the AGM, Dylan provided an update on events over the past year including a successful bus tour and autumn field day and the Bringing Regen to the Next Gen project which will be wrapping up in December.

The committee will meet in December to plan events for 2022.  Guest speaker at the AGM was Bruce Wood from Locmaria Farms, established in 2014 as a pastoral business with a focus on prime lamb production, operating on 2000 hectares between the townships of Naracoorte and Apsley.
